Digital Art Festival

We live in a world vastly different from anything our ancestors could have imagined. Today’s world is a complex network of information, communication, and transportation technologies that shape our lives and transform our perceptions. Artists now strive to understand the present and envision the future through the lens of technology.  

 

In this project, AI-curation is devoted to exploring new ways of thinking about art, technology, the past, and the future. What does it mean to be a curator in the age of technology? How can artificial intelligence utilize technology as a curatorial practice? Beyond acting as an enabler of artworks, how does AI participate in a digital art exhibition? What criteria does AI select to curate an art exhibition? What do past and future digital artworks signify for AI—or more precisely, what does the “past” mean to AI? Within the historic structure of Fişekhane—a former factory ahead of its time, originally established to process raw metal products—what multidisciplinary artworks will artificial intelligence bring together in the exhibition?  

 

The exhibition features works by artists from around the world who explore these questions through a variety of media, including video, sound art, installation, photography, and performance. Some artists focus on how high technology influences human perception, while others examine AI’s role within the framework of understanding the past. While some use technology as an artistic tool, others employ computers to create new art forms that enable viewers to forge mental bridges between past and future. Certain artists investigate how AI might transform the ways people interact with art, whereas others consider how AI could fundamentally alter art itself. Regardless of the direction they take, all these artists concentrate on where technology is leading art and the role it plays in shaping our comprehension of it.  

 

From June 3 to 12, 2022, the 2nd edition of the Istanbul Digital Art Festival will take place at Fişekhane, accompanied by Turkey’s first artificial intelligence curator.
